Chicago Dog Runner, LLC
How far do the dog's run?

For a normal run of 50 - 60 minutes the distance ranges from 4 - 7 miles
depending on the capacity of the
dog and the current weather conditions.

Where are your services offered?

Our services boundaries in Chicago are as follows: 18th Street to the south,
Foster Ave to the north, and Logan Square neighborhood to the west.

How old should my dog be to start this activity?

The standard rule-of-thumb is 8 months of age for a dog to start a regular
running program. Canines need time for their bones and joints to form properly in
order to withstand the stress of running for distance. Large breeds need a little
more time to develop, so in this case we recommend waiting until at least 10
months of age.

What if my dog has no experience running with a human companion?

No problem, that’s our job. Some dogs naturally “get it” and adapt quickly to on-
leash running. However, most dogs have a learning curve when it comes to this
activity. From the stubborn dog that wouldn't move an inch initially, to the wild
maniac who nearly separated a shoulder; we’ve basically seen it all. With enough
time and patience we believe just about any dog can become a good on-leash
running partner.

Where do you run?

It depends on where you live. We come to your home for pick up, so if you are
close to the lake we go to the lakefront running path. If you are closer to a city
park, we go there instead.

What about warm weather?

The safety and well being of the dogs exercising during the warm summer
months is our highest priority, period. Over the past
5 summers we have
developed multiple cooling and rest-break strategies to allow the dogs to run
safely in the heat. We will share all of our techniques openly with you. On the
really hot days, we will take your dog on a nice long walk or maybe even to the
beach.

What about cold weather?

Canceling a run on the coldest of winter days is always your option; otherwise
you can count on us to show up. Our staff is made up of serious outdoor
enthusiast who will run through any and all weather conditions. Dogs generate
heat while exercising and we have found almost all really enjoy running in the
snow and colder temperatures.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes. We take Visa, MasterCard, and Discover

What else do you require?

For a spot on the CDR schedule we require a commitment of at least one day a
week. History has shown that clients see greater benefit from their dog running 2,
3 or more days a week, but the requirement to start is one. We also require dogs
be current on vaccines and have all proper City of Chicago dog tags.

Why Chicago Dog Runner?

In short, because of our experience and competence. This company was founded
by a guy who grew up around a veterinary hospital and happened to be a
marathoner. That was a good starting background, but now (at the time of this
writing) David has run over 8000 miles with dogs professionally - and the team
as a whole has run many thousand more. That experience is invaluable in terms
of handling the numerous variables that can be encountered running through a
large, urban environment. Whether it’s avoiding winter salt, recommending the
appropriate leashing system, coming across stray dogs or wild animals, finding
the safest running routes, etc. – we've been at this awhile.
